62. Islands in the Stream
Updated: Dec 15, 2021
A Half Hour of Music and Stories at the Portland Conservatory of Music
12:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2nd, 2021
Music is part of life. And giving pieces of music some context can help us to appreciate them as islands of beauty, inspiration, and solace in the stream of life and change as it sweeps us along. Each piece I perform will be accompanied by a short description of background events which illustrate its meaning and importance to me, and led to my choosing to perform it. The final piece, Dancing on Water from my April 2021 album release The Presence of That Absence will feature piano and vocals.
The program will include:
· Images (Excerpt) by Michel Legrand, Arranged for piano by Robert Gans
· Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy
· Blue Ballet Suite Movements 1 and 2 by Robert Gans
1. Invocation and Offering
2. Birth of the Blues
· Consolation No. 3 by Franz Liszt
· Postlude: Dancing on Water by Robert Gans
